Learn To Sew- Foundations!

This beginner course will build skills AND confidence!

About this experience

Whether you are brand new to sewing or returning after a long sabbatical, this four week course is organized to give you a strong foundation in sewing skills, while enjoying the process of making a very cool bag you can show off around town!

All our dates are conveniently listed under the "Register" button, so you can choose if you prefer evenings or weekends!

We've re-worked our seven-year old Foundations class with local environmental engineer and sewing teacher extraordinare, Jeanniene Tazzioli. We are returning to a four week timeline, and including a robust workshop pack filled with useful information to remind you of all you'll learn.

You'll not only build skills in using a sewing machine (and troubleshooting the inevitable wonky moments!), you'll also learn the hows and whys of fabric selection, reading a simple pattern, sewing strong and tidy seams, using a zipper foot, and SEW much more. This class will prepare you to take on sewing projects at home, or ready you for any of our Beginner Plus classes (like Choose your Sewing Adventure, Intro to Sewing Garments, or Quilting for the Terrified but Eager).

We provide material and thread for the first class, but materials for your bag are not included in the class fee; you may bring your own (after learning which is best for the project) or purchase in store. You may bring your own machine or use ours, but if there are any issues with your machine that come up, you'll be asked to set it aside and use ours to keep class flowing. If you'd like a class specifically for your uniquie machine, you can book a private lesson or join a Get to Know your Sewing Machine class!

Also note: This truly is a learning journey, with a teacher guiding each of you towards your sewing goals. It's a small group class, and people work at their own pace. Students who prefer to take a little more time, or who miss a class may need to work on homework between classes, or book in for Open Sew time. We have Supported Open Sew on a regular schedule, as well as non-instructional Sewcials and Your Studio time that can be booked if you don't have a sewing machine at home. We do our best to encourage and support you in finishing your project, but make no guarantee of completion if students miss classes or need extra time. We cannot guarantee available make up classes. We are all individuals in learning style!
