Colour Play for Quilters and Artists

Colour combinations can overwhelm; slow down and explore with Marni McMahan!

About this experience

One of the most both joyful and frustrating things about trying to design your own quilts is understanding colour! We know when it works, and can tell when we've done something that is unharmonious, but how often do we take time to dive into colour on it's own, to build that skill and language in our minds?

True to the Spirit of the Spool, this is not a class about getting it "right", which usually just means being on trend, it's about developing YOUR relationship with colour.

In this class you will play with colour to create groupings of colours you can use in future quilts. This is not a class on the colour wheel. This is an opportunity to mix and match way more coloured fabric than you normally have access to. There is no perfect universal palette.

Colour preferences are very personal. This class is an opportunity to experiment. We will look at colour use in traditional, modern and contemporary quilts for the purpose of identifying our tastes. This is a class for all quilters, whatever types of quilts you make.

Supplies: please bring a sketch book, or some other stiff paper you can glue fabric onto, a glue stick, and if you have a cell phone or tablet that you can take photos with, please bring that too. It is not necessary, but nice to have.
