Tailored Trouser Techniques

Elevate your Trouser-game with Tailor Lori Kenney

About this experience

This 12-hour class is all about skills, techniques and elevating tailoring skills in trouser-making. We won't be focusing on an entire pair of pants, instead working on a smaller scale version to practice skills; similar to our "Perfect Pockets" Class or "4 Hems", you will learn all the skills that you can then apply to making trousers at home.

Each week will build new skills so that you have samples to refer back to. Students who are able to work on a pair of trousers at home along with the course will get a lot out of this!

Materials: Students will be using a drafted pattern by instructor Lori Kenney, and a material fee of $30 is payable to Lori directly on the first day. As a film costumer and tailor in Vancouver, she's able to source great materials and will bring a kit for each student.

Prerequisite: This is an intermediate class; students who've made several garments and are looking for greater challenges will get the most out of this class. At the minimum, students must have made pants, and be comfortable with working on a sewing machine and a bit of hand sewing. If in doubt, email Nicole at info@thespoolsewingstudio.com to discuss if this is the best fit!

Skills Developed:

  • variety of seams

  • sewing a zip fly

  • pockets/lining

  • welt pockets

  • darts

  • facings

  • waistbands/ finishing

  • buttonholes/belt loop

Upon completion of this class, you'll have a wealth of knowledge and skills you can apply to making a large range of garments, and have a deeper understanding of the complex construction of dress pants!
