Intro to Abstract Quilting; Kids 10+

Experienced and artsy kids age 10-17 will love this!

About this experience

Sewists age 10+ who love making art and want to blend art/sewing will love this summer camp intensive with Marni McMahan. Working over three mornings, you'll get a deep dive into Abstract Quilts!

In this class you will learn strategies for designing your own abstract quilts and techniques for sewing your design together.

We will start to work in black, white and greys to simplify our choices and thus focus more easily on composition and value. After learning how to sew this composition we will make it again, this time in colour.

Materials are provided, to simplify the process.

*Please note: you will not have a completed quilt at the end, our focus will be on the artful quilt top. Some sewing experience is necessary to get the most out of this course. You are welcome to bring your own machine or use ours.

We can recommend long-arm quilters if you'd like to have it quilted after completion

Also note: This truly is a learning journey, with a teacher guiding each of you towards your sewing goals. It's a small group class, and people work at their own pace. Students who prefer to take a little more time, or who miss a class may need to work on homework between classes, or book in for Open Sew time. We have Supported Open Sew on a regular schedule, as well as non-instructional Sewcials and Your Studio time that can be booked if you don't have a sewing machine at home. We do our best to encourage and support you in finishing your project, but make no guarantee of completion if students miss classes or need extra time. We cannot guarantee available make up classes. We are all individuals in learning style!
