Pattern Drafting: The Pants Block + more!
Experienced sewists know- pants drafting is the next level to your custom fit!Cost:
$280.00 per personAbout this experience
Prerequisite knowledge/skill level - Several years sewing experience and working with pre-made patterns, math calculations with decimals or fractions. **This class involves homework that is sewing together a "muslin" for fitting, completing patterns, as well as cutting and sewing pants with a fly, waist finishing and pockets. Students should be very comfortable with clothing constructions for this class. You should have made jeans or similiarly structured pants, not just elastic waist. If you are interested in making pants and don't yet have that level of skill, please sign up for the Sew your Wardrobe class to build those skills!
Skills you will learn -
Materials -Megan will bring all paper and extra pencils, rulers and curves, as well as provide written instructions and calculation worksheets. Students will need a mechanical pencil and eraser, see-thru rulers and curves if they have them (quilting ones are great and the Spool has many if don't have them.), and will need woven fabric for your fit muslin (broadcloth, muslin, old sheets) and for their finished pants (we will go over appropriate fabrics in class). If you bring tools, please label with painters tape in case of mix up!
*Also note: This truly is a learning journey, with a teacher guiding each of you towards your sewing goals. It's a small group class, and people work at their own pace. Students who prefer to take a little more time, or who miss a class may need to work on homework between classes, or book in for Open Sew time. We have Supported Open Sew on a regular schedule, as well as non-instructional Sewcials and Your Studio time that can be booked if you don't have a sewing machine at home. We do our best to encourage and support you in finishing your project, but make no guarantee of completion if students miss classes or need extra time. We are all individuals in learning style!
Because of the nature and small size of our classes, we are happy to switch you to another session or offer a refund with a minimum of two weeks notice.
Within 14 days of your starting class, we are happy to transfer your seat to a friend, but there are no refunds available- FINAL SALE. No shows are not eligible for refunds.
If you are a shift worker (or partnered with one, affecting your ability to plan) or have irregular ability to plan for other reasons, saving your registration for when you are certain about your availability reduces the stress for everyone- and if a class sells out before you get in, reach out to be added to a waitlist or to see if we can squeeze you in. We can often accommodate a last minute extra person, especially if you've been in touch in advance.

With over 25 years in the apparel industry, Megan's expertise spans the full process of garment creation from initial concept to finished piece. Frustrated with the lack of fit options for people in off-the-rack clothing, she began making custom garments for friends, family and herself and has turned it into a business. Alongside working with her clients, she has taught patternmaking and sewing at Lasalle College and is eager to pass on her learnings to anyone who wishes to have them!
