Sew Queer with Kir

A monthly Sewcial for Queer folk to gather and stitch

About this experience

Join Kir for a  Queer Sewcial! This Gender Euphoria clothing quest is open to all skill levels. Less a class than a facilitated event, Kir is there to support and celebrate your identity-confirming, joyful wardrobe goals.  We have space for 7 sewists, and there will be tea, connection, support and sharing of resources.

Income should not be a barrier to access to sewing or community. If income is a barrier to signing up, please contact me to book your spot, no questions asked: info@thespoolsewingstudio.com

Your registration supports this community space, and the facilitation of a rad group!

If you are an absolute beginner, you are still welcome to come, but we recommend coming to any of our super-queer-friendly sewing classes to build your technical skills and confidence as well.

Masks are encouraged!

Your Host

Hi folks! my name is Kir (she/they) and I am a queer, neurodivergent teacher and sewist living on the traditional and unceded territories of the K'ómoks First Nation. I first got into sewing in 2006 when a friend showed me how to turn thrifted jeans into miniskirts (and sew on sequined appliqués!), but really dove into teaching myself how to make clothes in summer 2019. With a class here at the Spool that fall, I was able to tackle my dream button-up collared shirt, and voilà, my gender euphoria clothing quest began. since the start of COVID, i have been loving sewing as a strategy to manage anxiety (and re-watch all of X-files), and have been building an almost entirely me-made wardrobe. I have also found such an amazing queer and inclusive sewist community out there (I promise they exist out of the mainstream), and it has been truly empowering. stoked to make things with you and be a part of this awesome community! you can find me on instagram at @kirsews.
