The Spool Sewing Studio in collaboration with Uptown Yarns presents: Learn to Knit!

November: Fridays 16 & 23, 5:30-7:30 Beginners Cowl Class

3.5Hours. Beginner friendly $50, Kit $18

This course is for beginners or those still working on basic skills. You will learn basic cast on and bind off, knit and purl, how stitches combine to make patterns, and how to correct simple mistakes. This project, a garter stitch cowl, provides opportunities to practice and refine your new skills. To get the most from this course doing some homework and working on your project at home in between the two classes is expected. Join this course and learn to knit in a fun and supportive environment!

Materials: included 1 skien berroco air, 8 mm needles provided by Uptown Yarns

January: Saturday 12th 12-2PM & Friday 18 6-8PM Toque

4 Hours. Prerequisite: Cowl class or equivalent experience $60, Kit $18

After finishing a few scarves/cowls new knitters start looking for a new challenge. A hat is a good “step-up” project. This class will introduce knitting with double pointed needles or circular needles. In this class students will work on a basic unisex toque pattern. Make any size you like, even baby sized. You can even add a pompom toper if you like.

March: Mondays 4 & 11, 5:30-7:30. Featherweight Shawl

4 Hours, Prerequisite: Cowl class or equivalent experience $60, Kit $20

A light weight wrap, perfect for Spring. Using a silk mohair for a delicate and elegant look. Pattern designed by Judy Gladwin from Uptown Yarns. This class teaches cast on, bind off stockinette stitch, and seaming while using a delicate yarn.

Studio Favourite Kiyoko Martin is a remarkable knitter and a cheerful and supportive facilitator. She will walk you through the beginning stages of learning to knit, with kits being provided by Uptown Yarns. Participants are expected to work on their projects in between classes to get the most out of the class, and are welcome to come by during drop in for small trouble shooting. We’ve spaced the classes a week apart in order to give you time to work on the steps you need to move on to the next part in class. Our Sewcials are a great time to come in and finish things up as well, and we try to schedule them after knitting classes to best accommodate that!
