For the Sake of Sashiko

Join us for an exploration of the history, the uses and the joy of Sashiko Stitching. Equal parts hands on and interesting discussion, you will not only learn HOW to stitch, but why this ancient technique remains as relevant as ever.

Week one will be a discussion group, with a workshop handout, and lots of interesting tips and tricks, You will learn the basics of getting started, using a stencil, how to make the stitches on various fabrics, and take some samples home to work on.

Week two will be continuing the basics on samples, and you will be invited to bring a garment requiring mending-we will teach you about trouble shooting a wide variety of mending techniques, as each issue is a unique puzzle to be solved by the mender.

A take-home kit will be provided with Sashiko needles and thread, regular embroidery thread and a variety of fabric samples to try out various techniques.
