Slow Stitch- Drawstring Bag

Use reclaimed global textiles to make this bag inspired by traditions such as Kantha, Boro, Patchwork and Mending!

About this experience

All through history until very recently, cloth has been precious. Time consuming to make, and worth saving every bit, humans have mended, stitched, patched and maintained their bits of cloth, and handed them down through generations. Perhaps you have some small bit of special cloth- a piece of a quilt, a wedding dress, a baby bonnet.

Artist Lori Kenney explores the techniques she's learned in studying textile traditions from around the world, and offers slow stitch classes here at The Spool. After several sold-out session of Slow Stitch, we wanted to expand her offerings!

In this class, rather than a flat piece of textile art, she wanted to create a piece that blends art and craft by maing a functional yet decorative object that honours the traditions she's been exploring.

This 4 week session will take you on the journey to create your own layered cloth drawstring project bag or storage bag.

Starting with artistic layout and composition with up to ten diferent reclaimed global textiles, learn to incorporate organic construction methods as the work evolves. Explore the endless beauty of the
running stitch, and other forms of markmaking with thread. Finish with a lining ( some machine sewing required) and learn to make textile cordage (it's addictive).

Use you own stash of fabrics ( Ideal to have
about ten -12 pieces in the palette of plain, and woven textiles) Kits will also be available for $35.

Pattern is included.

Boro Rice Bag Kit (optional): $35 (or bring your own!)
