About this experience

July 26-29th, 10AM-2PM

Ages 10+, All skill levels

Materials Included *

This condensed, longer camp is ideal for those kids who want to be making their own wardbrobe and designing their own clothes. We will work with each kid to choose skill-appropriate projects that will push their skills and challenge them, while being achievable.

Beginners may make a couple simple garments or one more challenging garment, experienced sewists may even try drafting their own patterns from their measurements!

We encourage students to bring clothes they (or you) are done with, as we try to include an upcycle element to our fashion camp! We learn a lot about construction through careful destruction, and about the environmental impacts of fast fashion and how to mitigate that through conscious decisions, making and mending.

*This class includes a $50 budget for students to choose fabric from the front, but if your child is wanting something bigger, or more garments, we will always discuss flexing the budget with parents. $50 is enough for one garment generally, after we apply your 30% student discount. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn budgeting, and the cost of materials- which is an important life skill!

Homelearners will actually fulfill many of the Textiles 10 credit requirements, so please let me know if you need a letter. Some of the important life skills kids learn in our sewing classes are: Taking responsibility for caring for the space, working as a team to clean; fine motor skills, building spatial intelligence; making mistakes and fixing them while dealing with frustration; making creative decisions and changing them; altering patterns to fit each unique body; encouraging each other and themselves; reflecting on our impacts in the world. So much more than sewing, truly!

Please pack snacks/lunch and water bottle.
