Watercolour Stitching for Summer Colours year-round

Join Chilean Mixed Media artist Katy Biele in this bold and beautiful class of paint and stitch!

About this experience

Enjoy this Watercolour and Embroidery Workshop with Chilean Artist Katy Biele, who is based in Victoria.

We were fortunate enough to host Katy in 2019 for a sold out 3D embroidery class, and are over the moon to be finally bringing her back!

This is a special session to go deep into mixed media embroidery, learning how to use watercolors on paper and finally using the paint on fabric and learn to stitch different textures, discovering your artistic voice. No experience or previous art skills are necessary, this class is about exploration and joy!

This is a fun way that Katy has been practicing for years, creating a unique style which is rich in colour, movement, and texture.

We will work on paper, trying ink and watercolor, to see how to mix them in a harmonic way and also experiment, followed by painting on fabric.

Then we will go deep into embroidery, first learning basic stitches, and then starting to create textures to work on our painted fabric and how to blend these together.

*Includes all the materials plus some more to take home

Katy Biele (B. 1986) is a multidisciplinary artist from Chile, based in Victoria BC, Canada. Her visual language explores beyond medium and colour to create imaginary and intuitive worlds, often inhabited by faces and communicating between paint and fibre.

Biele's work ranges from paintings to fibre arts, to rather expansive installations, using a variety of mediums and materials. Her fibre work is made specially in a freestyle way in which she creates contemporary embroidery textures by playing with Latin-American colours

Another component of Katy Biele's work is her painting style, where she works principally on faces, staring out from a parallel reality of imaginary people and vague memories also showing family and peoples connection.

Biele works constantly on commissions for collectors, projects and also releases from her website.
